What is a pod home?
A pod home is a fixed, fully self-contained dwelling built for permanent living. Unlike a mobile dwelling built on a trailer, which falls under vehicle regulations rather than building codes, a pod home is a fixed structure on permanent footings, constructed to meet the National Construction Code and the Building Code of Australia.
Each pod home is built in a controlled factory environment, then delivered and assembled on your site. Building in a controlled environment means tighter quality, less waste and faster construction than a conventional build, and some of our pods can be delivered and installed in as little as one day. Larger pod homes are typically completed within 12 weeks of building approval.

Approvals and council requirements
Like any permanent home, a fixed pod home requires a Building Approval to meet National Construction Code standards. If you’re using your pod home as a secondary dwelling, it will be subject to specific local council regulations for example, a secondary dwelling typically shares the same driveway as the main house, and secondary dwelling limits often restrict the size to a maximum of 80m².
It sounds like a lot, but you won’t be managing it alone. Our team handles council approval and the building approval process for you, and we’ll talk you through exactly what your site and local council require before anything begins. Site access is also important when delivering a pre-built pod home, so we assess your block early to plan transport and installation.
